Got in a bit ago from another scorcher here in Minnesota. Started off the morning with a 9-2 victory in soccer, had a stellar game in net if I dont say so myself. Indie rock trio Yo La Tengo are no stranger to the music/movie crossover. In the last three years alone the band has composed music for more than six flicks. Blockbusters these movies weren't, but now the Hoboken-ers will be lending their musical genius to another flick, this one starring some bigger Hollywood hitters, albeit no Oscar winners.

I happened upon this the other day and I cannot get this out of my head and find myself humming it constantly. my goal is to create a mog world of people humming this song....someone in London, someone in San Francisco, someone in Kansas, etc, etc. each humming this all day....( it would be even better if people find themselves doing the little dance.)

After thanksgiving, Superbowl Sunday is my favorite holiday. (yes it is, shut up). A day set aside for the U S of A to wallow in the vulgar excesses of consumerism gone mad. A day when couch potatoism almost becomes mandatory. A day for over-doing every hedonistic vice but sex.
And somewhere in all the screeching media blather, there will be an NFL football game played. One for the ages.

I have a son who is 14 and he rocks. I mean, literally, with a drum kit and a guitar and sometimes the bass, etc. etc. I have taken him to many shows, exposed him to much music and although I do not play an instrument, I feel I have played my part in his musical upbringing. That said, this weekend he came to my house and brought a friend. This guy is also around 14 and he plays guitar-they are in a band together and talk and share a lot about music.

What can I say about Yo La Tengo except I always loved their amatuerish (sp?) jimmie jangley sound. I have a theory that bands do cover albums right before they start to suck or right after (example the once mighty NYC Firewater). But fuck If I always buy them.

Have you ever listened to some music and felt like "Man, am I ever getting old."
Recently someone shared with me some Yo La Tengo, which is a husband / wife / drummer group from Hoboken, NJ. A true hipster band which formed in the mid 80's way before there were hipsters. Growing up in Jersey, I knew about them peripherally, but hadn't really paid any attention to them until hearing "I Feel Like Going Home". Wow, just wow. I really liked what I heard.

Most of my friends couldn't care less about Yo La Tengo...well, I obviously love them(YLT, not my friends ! Well, ok, I love them, too).
I guess it happens to a lot of bands: they get thrown into the indie-hype-alternative-whatever basket and since a lot of people don't like that kind of stuff, they give up on an artist before even giving it a close listen because the stupid hype or whatever just ruined it for everybody. I think most of my friends assume Yo La Tengo is just "... MORE

When YLT occasionally play this song live, Ira Kaplan tends intentionally to butcher the guitar solo, so I guess he doesn't much like the song. But it's got a certain moody quality that appeals to me.

Of course when you're in your mid to late 20s you're going to attend a lot of weddings...cousins, college friends, high school friends, and all of the above of your significant other.
Well, this past weekend i was at a wedding for a childhood-college friend. It was an amazing Greek-Orthodox affair and they had a traditional Greek band and DJ there to play. The band played for at least 75% of the time and everyone (the Greeks at least) was dancin
