Funny how life works sometimes, actually a lot of times it is not something you really want to laugh at. A while back I did a post about a friend who I had thought I lost. I guess you could say it was a way of me hoping they would come back into my life. Then life gave me something good, and that person was back in my life once again. That would be the funny part of it because often when you least expect it good things happen for no apparent reason at all. Here it is a fe... MORE
photo of Willie Nelson maybe ten years earlier In some ways Willie Nelson's own early material is superior to this because of his genius for wry ironic lyrics, but there is something about his interpretation of this old 1930s waltz by Rex Griffin, a composer of cowboy songs, that forces me to listen to it more often than anything else of his. From a 1975 Liberty album, Country Willie, it has a dated but drop-dead beautiful pop arrangement riddled with violins an... MORE
Straight form Luck, Texas comes Willie Nelson's new star-studded video for "You Don't Think I'm Funny Anymore" off his latest album Moment of Forever.
Among those making cameos in the mini-movie montage are Woody Harrelson, Jessica Simpson, Dan Rather, Luke and Owen Wilson - the latter who bets Nelson $10,000 that Simpson can't beat the both of them in a lawnmower race. Nelson ends up cashing in.

I was going to write this whole political thing about the Baby Boomers, the fact that I might vote for a Democrat for the first time in my life and all of that... but this is a music site, and it's a sunday, and thats when we talk covers.... first off, anyone that digs covers should take a listen to the Coverville podcast... One of my all time fave tunes is Poncho and Lefty... by Towns Van Zandt... the song is most famous for the version recorded by Willie Neleson and ... MORE
I was able to snag an advance of Willie Nelson's new box set (out 4/1/8) and it's my new favorite. 100 songs on 4 cds and pretty darn diverse. Called "One Hell of a Ride" and I reckon from the songs (going back to the beginning of his career) it really has been a pretty amazing ride.
Country artists taking on pop standards wasn’t a new idea when Willie Nelson released the ten tracks of 1978’s Stardust LP. Ferlin Husky had released an entire album’s worth on 1957’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and other country stars regularly drew from the Great American Songbook. Nelson himself had recorded "That Lucky Old Sun" two years earlier for his The Sound in Your Mind LP. What made Stardust so audacious was the confluence of Nelson’s iconoclastic career and the... Three of my favorite free spirits in one song. The brilliant words of Gram Parsons, the weathered, road tested voice of Willie Nelson, and Ryan Adams and his passion for music at the soundboard producing the record.
My favorite from Willie's latest album
Remember back in September of ’06 when Willie Nelson’s tour bus was pulled over somewhere in the inbred-lands of Louisiana? Well, state troopers found copious amounts of marijuana (We’re talking garbage bags full!) and those “special mushrooms” on board. Here's a link to the picture of the confiscated narcotics: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0922061willie1.html Regardless Willie Nelson got off the hook for the weed charges. Last Tuesday, after pleading guilty to ... MORE
There's an interesting interview of WIllie Nelson on Democracy Now! today. Here's a clip dealing with Willie's take on 9/11:
It's worth watching or listening to the whole interview. He has cool ideas about bio-fuels,corporate radio, the politics of country music, etc. You can find the whole thing here: http://www.democracynow.org.
Also, check out the video for Willie's a cappella version of "Peaceful Solution," which I believe is on the new disc:
