I Wanna Be Your Cover Dog

(166)
Blog post image preview Posted Uncle Tupelo's Anthology over on Multiply but wanted to post this great cover of an Iggy & The Stooges' song. Love this song so much & Farrar/Tweedy give it such an unusual spin. Gotta love it, yo! If you don't know, Uncle Tupelo were the band prior to Jay Farrar's band Son Volt & Jeff Tweedy's Wilco. Such a great band. They helped to establish the whole alternative country rock genre. Here's their wiki if you want to investigate further: http://e... MORE

Here's a video I saw on another site that I thought was pretty cool. A) because it shows a very young Jeff Tweedy / Jay Farrar and B) because the music is great:

i made a lot of mistakes, in my mind.

Artist:
Album:

its too late to be sitting up writing and i know i have to be at work by 10 tomorrow. and i'm not really worth much before noon. rock and roll only has one eight o'clock. i went out tonight to take out the trash for the store, well, honestly, i tore out the back door rapt with the frustration of being in a position that isn't anything near where i thought i'd be at 23 years old and almost just kept walking. the best feeling i've had all week was just not being there... Blog post image preview god bless my new mogging hero Jameson(http://mog.com/jameson)for he brought tears to my eyes. if this wasn't a virtual forum, you could see them; they are real. how did he do it you ask? it was quite simple actually, he turned back the clock and gave me the gift of Uncle Tupelo! my long beloved, long broken up into bits favorite alt country/punk/rock ground breaking combo from the quite depressed hamlet of Belleview, Ill. back in the day the were a staple of the soundtrack o... Belleview's Finest

god love and miss the brilliance that was Uncle Tupelo. tweedy and farrar made some sweet, chaotic and sadly beautiful music in the late 80's and early 90's. thanks to my new mogging buddy jameson, i rediscovered the final Uncle Tupelo show that i lost so long ago. though they hated each other by then and maybe always, they threw the shit down that long ago beer spilled night in good old st louis. for folks who love what jeff tweedy has created in Wilco, check out the angry c... when the bible is a bottle

Artist:
Album:
Track: still be around.
i had to work today. at 7am. i'm so tired lately that everything is a blur and the only things that make it better are the shape of his face and the deep edge of a little espresso under the table, the always cold other side of the pillow and funny sunlit conversations on the most unlikely of days. there are some records we listen to so hard that we can't hear them anymore. they get thick with meaning and moments, dense with images and ideas that weren't there before we s... Uncle Tupelo

Artist:
Album:

This album was recorded in Spring of 1992, was produced by Peter Buck of REM fame and shows the boys fully immersed in country and old blue collar depression era music, no punk here, just stripped down acoustic appalachian beauty and peace. Reminds me of home.... MORE

And the Uncle Tupelo version....

Artist:

"God bless them pretty women, I wish they was mine..." I like the Cat Power version, but this one crushes me...in the best of ways...you can hear the loneliness in Jay Farrar's vocals...

Whiskey Bottle by Uncle Tupelo

Artist:
Album:
Track:
i just listened to this song and realized that the lap steel (or pedal steel?) in it must be directly related to pulling heart strings... everytime i hear this song, in particular the steel part, i get all teary eyed.... i don't even drink whiskey! but i drink lotsa wine.... i love Uncle Tupelo. the last CD i purchased before opening up my record store was this one, so this album has a really important meaning in my life.... Two reasons for this post. One, I have seen a serious shortage of love on mog for Uncle Tupelo, the seminal alt-country band of the late 80's/early 90's. And the second reason, I just wanted to use the word 'seminal' in a post. All the cool music writers use it, and I never have. To tell you the truth it didn't do much for me, But I do love Uncle Tupelo...so here are two songs, one fronted by Jay Farrar and one by Jeff Tweedy...because I am nothing if not fair... MORE

The color of Music

Artist:
Album: Anodyne [Remaster]
What is the color of music? What is the taste of jazz? Does in fact, Uncle Tupelo taste like pie and strong diner coffee? These are the kind of questions that make the mind whisper wordlessly close to the tongue and the ears, says, "hey? What ya think about this?" And of course the tongue only smiles, and nods knowingly to the ears, because without them, the brain's got nothing but time. Nothing but time. Like a computer in the middle of a parking lot, severed source of compu... MORE
