So later the same night after seeing the Gore Gore Girls, The headline act took the stage. I really liked the energy of this band, but on this particular night, they had the PA turned up a little too high. My ears like too have at least a chance of understanding the words. It was still fun to frolic with the band as they handed out used items of clothing at the breaks between sets. ...and near the end of the show there was a dance contest where (female) audience member... Though they’d been around quite awhile before that, the first time I heard this band was 1996 in friend’s garage when he slapped the CD "Dirt Track Date", their first major label release, in and cranked it up. By the time it was over I’d fallen in love. Over the next couple of years I acquired a good portion of their catalog. Hard to describe this band; a big hunk of HIGH powered White Trash Hillbilly Boogie, meets Surf and Mexican Radio, all warped up into a swamp pop... MORE

I got an iPhone Friday night. Funny thing, with all those people waiting in line all around the country, I just waited until 9pm, drove to the Apple store in the local mall, walked up to the counter, and bought an 8gb iPhone. Now its a long story, but part of the transaction involves me making sure that there is ice cream in the refrigerator at all times for the next year.

Te-Ni-Nee-Ni-Nu .Here's another one from Southern Culture on the Skids latest album, Countrypolitan Favorites. This album is 15 cover songs, so, guess I could keep this up for the next 13 weeks - jk.. .Originally written and recorded by Slim Harpo (born James Isaac Moore) in, best I can figure, 1968, less that two years before he died at 31 from a heart attack. I've never heard the original, but would love to! It has since been cover by several others before SCOTS, incl... MORE

I was looking around for something to post this morning and I happened upon a nice post by waydutch about a cool tune called Funnel Of Love http://mog.com/waydutch/list/posts/3
I thoroughly enjoyed that tune. So, I decided to post my favorite tune by the S.C.O. T.S. entitled 8 Piece Box. I find this tune great because you can hear that chicken scratchin by the excellent guitar work, love that.

Funnel of Love.Southern Culture on the Skids. From their latest "Countrypolitan Favorites", which is 15 cover tracks. Getting to like this album more, but still was hoping for something original with an edgier, hard driving sound.. .Best I can figure this song was written in the 1950's by Charlie McCoy and first recorded by, the Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson, in 1960.
