So later the same night after seeing the Gore Gore Girls, The headline act took the stage. I really liked the energy of this band, but on this particular night, they had the PA turned up a little too high. My ears like too have at least a chance of understanding the words. It was still fun to frolic with the band as they handed out used items of clothing at the breaks between sets. ...and near the end of the show there was a dance contest where (female) audience member... Life's a Gas

Track: Life's a Gas

Life’s a Gas   The song title fits my mood today, second day of summer program, all is running well and...   Well, my job can be so fun!  (Well, maybe it's easier to say that now that several weeks of heavy prep. are done)   So, here's one of my favorite band's doing a cover (their last album was all covers) of Life's a Gas.  And in typical SCOTS fashion if you’re gonna do fuzzy, well, really do it... Well, dang, that didn’t work, guess I’ll make it a... MORE

Though they’d been around quite awhile before that, the first time I heard this band was 1996 in friend’s garage when he slapped the CD "Dirt Track Date", their first major label release, in and cranked it up. By the time it was over I’d fallen in love. Over the next couple of years I acquired a good portion of their catalog. Hard to describe this band; a big hunk of HIGH powered White Trash Hillbilly Boogie, meets Surf and Mexican Radio, all warped up into a swamp pop... MORE

I Like It

(26)
I got an iPhone Friday night. Funny thing, with all those people waiting in line all around the country, I just waited until 9pm, drove to the Apple store in the local mall, walked up to the counter, and bought an 8gb iPhone. Now its a long story, but part of the transaction involves me making sure that there is ice cream in the refrigerator at all times for the next year.
Now as great as the thing is, with its groovy new interface and all, the part I like best is the mus... MORE

Under the Covers - with SCOTS yet again

Artist:
Album:
Track: Happy Jack - (bonus track)
(44)
Blog post image preview Continuing this series by popular demand(?), from their latest, which is 15 covers. So, I'm warning you, I could keep going awhile here yet. . .This is the "bonus" cut from Southern Culture on the Skids’ (SCOTS) latest CD, Countrypolitan Favorites. Taking a rather different twist from the rest of the album and doing a cover of the Who’s “Happy Jack”. … and, of course, naturally when covering a Who tune, Rick figures it’s time to break out the banjo and do some pickin... Under the covers -- with SCOTS again...

Blog post image preview Te-Ni-Nee-Ni-Nu .Here's another one from Southern Culture on the Skids latest album, Countrypolitan Favorites. This album is 15 cover songs, so, guess I could keep this up for the next 13 weeks - jk.. .Originally written and recorded by Slim Harpo (born James Isaac Moore) in, best I can figure, 1968, less that two years before he died at 31 from a heart attack. I've never heard the original, but would love to! It has since been cover by several others before SCOTS, incl... MORE

Chicken Scratchin Music

(15)
Blog post image preview I was looking around for something to post this morning and I happened upon a nice post by waydutch about a cool tune called Funnel Of Love http://mog.com/waydutch/list/posts/3 I thoroughly enjoyed that tune. So, I decided to post my favorite tune by the S.C.O. T.S. entitled 8 Piece Box. I find this tune great because you can hear that chicken scratchin by the excellent guitar work, love that. So, heres it is!!

Sunday Under the Covers

Artist:
Album:
Track: Funnel Of Lov

Blog post image preview Funnel of Love.Southern Culture on the Skids. From their latest "Countrypolitan Favorites", which is 15 cover tracks. Getting to like this album more, but still was hoping for something original with an edgier, hard driving sound.. .Best I can figure this song was written in the 1950's by Charlie McCoy and first recorded by, the Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson, in 1960. Covers of it have also been recorded by: Lips & The Trips, Tav Falco Panther Burns, Tarnation ,The ... MORE

s.c.o.t.s. creates some damn fine surf-a-billy. the individual styles of the musicians complement each other really well- and rick miller is a wonderful guitarist. their music is southern-fried and fun.
