On paper, Ol' 55 reads like a song to be sung with screaming guitars, a heavy drumbeat and wind in the hair. But it's really a song about the dream of those days; youth, and the dream of the American road. The dream of the endless goodbye. The frontier, the sun coming up, promises of the new that fade into greasy diners and wasted love. It's always been one of my favorites. Sarah MacLachlan's version on The Freedom Sessions is a wee bit sanitized, but it works pretty well... MORE

Over the weekend, while some were at The Kooks concert and others were at the Everest concert, 20,000 people were at the Bridge School Benefit at the sold-out (it seemed) Shoreline Amphitheater. The line-up was quite interesting starting off at 5:20 with Band of Horses, followed by Cat Power and...

It's been awhile since we heard anything from Sarah MacLachlan. Her last studio album was the Wintersong EP in 2006 and her last full-length album of original material was 2003's Afterglow. The singer-songwriter isn't releasing new material, but the new collection she'll release in April does contain many treats. Rarities, B-Sides and Other Stuff, Volume 2 features duets with Emmylou Harris, Cyndi Lauper, Perishers, and Bryan Adams as well as cover songs and remixes. (... MORE
Sadly, Sarah McLachlan and her husband are seperating. That has to be a real pain when you're doing press and promo work for a new album too. There are apparently two kids in the mix.

I am sitting here, finishing up moving all of my beloved music over to an external hard drive(music is the ONLY thing i can be practical about) and I heard the Ice Cream man drive by for what is probably one of the last times in my life. Ah, the suburban Midwest. Kids drop what ever it is there doing and run to their folks for some loose change to by some ice cream shaped like whatever pre-teen pop culture icon is hot this year. When I was in So Cal for Coachella...I m... MORE

I first came across Sarah McLahlan indirectly. One of her songs, Hold On , was on an early 90's alternative rock compilation titled No Alternative (a benefit album produced to raise money for the Red Hot Organization in its fight against AIDs - long time readers of MISB probably recognize is as there are A LOT of really great tracks on it from some really great bands, some of which I've posted before). I absolutely loved Sarah's song, and it was my favorite track from... MORE

Continuing with the theme of the Christmas season. Enjoy. SARAH MCLACHLAN lyrics - Wintersong The lake is frozen overThe trees are white with snowAnd all aroundReminders of youAre everywhere I go It's late and morning's in no hurryBut sleep won't set me freeI lie awake and try to recallHow your body felt beside meWhen silence gets too hard to handleAnd the night too long And this is how I see youIn the snow on Christmas morningLove and happiness surround youAs you ... When I give it some thought, I realized that, I _knew_ it was only a matter of time before things were to end between me and the ex. Somehow, I just knew things were going to be chaotic soon. I'm just... I just don't know how to feel at the moment. Next Friday he leaves for Scotland for the rest of '07 [the semester], and he won't be back until January. And then what... and then what? This song seems rather appropriate because of the lines "The winter here's cold ... MORE
