Blog post image preview To kick off SXSW in style, I interviewed the whip-smart, calm & appropriately stripe-sleeved Michael Stipe. FYI: Surprise! I interspersed YOUR MOG QUESTIONS within the interview. (i.e. "Mogger Extraordinary Poems would like to know...") I'll be posting those in the next few weeks... Also as we wait for the April album release, I'm going to keep posting up longer clips of the whole interview... Till then: drum roll please..... Here's "Interview Question #1: MICHAEL ... MORE

Blog post image preview Ever wonder what goes on in the mind of Mr. Stipe? Well I've got another clip here from the interview with Michael Stipe during SXSW where Michael Stipe talks about his dreamworld and the song "Sing For The Submarine." Since Accelerate was just released April 1st, it's pretty interesting insight. {PLEASE LINK TO FULL POST TO SEE VIDEO} The beginning of the interview, Michael's eye kinda drift off to the side. What you can't see is he was staring out the window of his h... MORE

Here we had been talking for about 45 minutes and he was clearly comfortable.... (CLICK ON FULL POST TO SEE VIDEO) I ask him a question from Extraordinary Poems...(excellent q Chica!) and he ends up going on a hilarious tangent..... involving Cher, Vomit, NY Times, and jewish orthodox split pea soup.... Unreal....

Looking back it's no wonder to me that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is my favorite book. Like On The Road, Mark Twain's classic is a story about the exploration of yr personal dreams. A journey through the beautiful wonder that is the Mississippi River. I guess this is why I've always lived or was drawn toward places near water. They say that the best music and art is created near large bodies of water. Think about it...the Southern Blues was born near the Mississip... MORE

Blog post image preview After I heard REM’s ‘Accelerate for the first time, I did three things. 1. I looked over my notes and research from the rehearsal shows to see which songs I’d heard before. (About half of them.)2. I listened to some old REM to see where it fit in a big picture of the band.3. I listened to it again. The first is important because the story of this album kind of begins there. The five night residency in the Olympia Theatre was, for all intents and purposes, to preview t... MORE

Free music video of So, Central Rain (15)
Stereogum (who I just noticed refer to our own Michael Goldberg as 'One of the cool kids') have posted video of R.E.M. performing 'Hollow Man' on 'The Colbert Report'. It's a pretty solid performance, but the highlight on the page is some Youtube footage from Jones Beach, where the band preceded 'So Central Rain' with a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain?' Seeing as these are two of my favourite songs ever, I feel the need to post the vid... MORE

Blog post image preview   Madison Square Garden
R.E.M. is "pretty much a great live band," Michael Stipe once said (i.e. in our SXSW interview earlier this year). Said words echoed in my head, high expectations pulsed in my veins, as I traipsed in to Madison Square Garden this Thursday. To be concise and admitedly redundant, I'd agree the show was indeed 'great.' But since I'm not one to be a) redundant b) concise and you Moggers deserve much more- below is a full photographic diary of that ni... MORE

Blog post image preview And I'm not dreaming. Let's start from the beginning. Last Thursday, I headed to an opening of Ryan McGinley's photography in Soho, innocently with my good friend Spyro. Some background: Ryan McGinley is an ingenue- his photos both gritty and ethereal. This show- was dosed in blissed out sunshine- of celestial beings- afloat in liquid, suspended in air- battling with gravity- lost in fields. He was the youngest photog to be displayed at the Whitney Museum ever (a... MORE

A local radio station had a good morning show that plays music.  Shocking, I know.  At the top of every hour, they have a thing called "What's The Point?"  5 songs are played and the listener has to guess the point of the 5.  I'm currently working on 2 submissions for "What's the Point," and I need the help of the awesome Moggers.   My first submission idea is songs Taylor Hawkins has drummed on.  I have 4 songs so far.  I just need 1 more. My second submission idea is ... MORE

Blog post image preview Michael Stipe isn't exactly camera shy. To see what I mean check out his doe-eyed mug on indiepixie's post. Stipe and the rest of R.E.M. will now release the 192 page book R.E.M. HELLO consisting of pictures taken by Seattle-based photographer David Belisle on June 1st. Of the 192 pages, 175 of them are color and black & white photographs of the band. According to book's publisher Chronicle Books: David Belisle has photographed and traveled with R.E.M. for the past sev... MORE

Blog post image preview REM absolutely roared during their long set at the Mann Music Center on Wednesday night!  I'd never seen them before (not sure how that happened), so when the tour began I told my wife we must must must see them.  So I bought the tix,,, we figured out a babysitting plan, etc, and were all set.  As events transpired however, it turned into just me going and then contacting an old college friend to join me.  So we drove down in the rain, praying it would end, as the Mann is ... Blog post image preview As promised, the new R.E.M. album Accelerate is available on iLike.com. What's even better is that you can stream the entire album (or individual songs) for free and you don't even need to sign up for anything. iLike also has a new video from Michael Stipe, discussing the new record. Jump over there and watch it, Stipe looks adorable, vaguely like Elvis Costello... http://www.ilike.com/artist/R.E.M.
