While I'm as jazzed over the new iPod Nanos as anyone, I'm more interested in the updated iTunes 8. New iPods have become a yearly "fashion show" that always gets lots of press, but the venerable iTunes often gets overlooked. This time, however, there's more here than meets the eye. While Steve Jobs was upfront in describing the new iTunes Genius function that creates playlists based on your library data, stripped of identifying information, he failed to mention that... MORE
Peter Gabriel has launched a new website dedicated to helping users find music and movies to fit their taste. The Filter is described as a discovery service: tell it the movies, music and web videos that you enjoy, and it will make daily recommendations of new material you might like. The site will not go public until next month, but users can register with the site right now to participate in its private beta testing phase. Gabriel told CNET that his vision for The Fi... MORE

A few days ago I went with my friend Angie to go see Wall-E. As a movie I must say it was freaking adorable. It really managed to put love and affection into a new light seeing as it was two robots (which I'm sure the Catholic Church has a problem with). The real key to this as a film, for me anyway, was the lack of major dialogue. It seemed that the brunt of this film was translated to the audience via sounds and an incredible soundtrack. Throughout the film, Wall-E has... MORE

Don't Give Up
In this proud land we grew up strongWe were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose
Don't give up
'cos you have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know y... MORE
In case you didn't know, these are the big boys who, for the most part, try to tell you what to listen to. Although independents account for 28 per cent of the market, the music industry today is still dominated by 'the Big Four' record companies. Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO Doug Morris presides over the largest record company in the world. Taken together, its labels such as Island, Polydor and Mercury account for a 25.5 per cent share in the global market... MORE
Mercy Street comes from one of my all-time favorite albums by Peter Gabriel, So. It is about the poet Anne Sexton, the title is taken from the name of her 1968 play 45 Mercy Street.
Here is a cover performed by the incomparable Happy Rhodes. Her 4 octave vocal range goes from the highs of Kate Bush to the lowest of Annie Lennox.
yes. yes i did get the peter gabriel secret world live dvd from the library. and yes, it is awesome. haha. thanks to brother august here, i had this little doozy shipped to my library where i rented and watched it over and over again. it came out, i believe in 1994, and filmed over two nights. i have his newest live dvd titled "growing up" and although the stakes were high, i believe the older "secret world" has just as many highlights as his latest masterpiece. if you a... Even for Peter Gabriel, So was a breakthrough album, due in large part to his willingness to incorporate a variety of musical styles through collaboration with other artists. The most popular song from that album In Your Eyes, has become a concert staple for Gabriel. It features Youssou N'Dour, and the video below, shot in Geneva in 2005, is a reprise of that collaboration. Peter Gabriel is well known, and doesn't need any pointers from me. Youssou N'Dour, however, i... MORE
If we're going by strictly a video resume, no one did it better than Peter Gabriel.
Example is "Big Time". Not only a great song, from a great album, but also an excellent music video.
