Cloud nine can be a tiring and exhausting place, coming down from it can even be more awful. You see I’ve been on it since Friday afternoon, when I walked into the 700-acre spread of mud and grass in the heart of Tennessee known as Bonnaroo. In a matter of 72 hours I was able to see several bands – Metallica, M.I.A. (for possibly the last time ever if her retirement rumors are true), Sigur Ros (who come around from Iceland only once in a blue moon), Death Cab For Cutie (wh... MORE
The clock is ticking away to September 18th and so far neither Republican Presidential candidate John McCain nor Democratic Presidential candidate Barrack Obama have answered the petition to hold a presidential debate in New Orleans.
Signed by Pearl jam, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, R.E.M., My Morning Jacket, 311 and Jackson Brown along with NOLA musicians Dr. John and the Neville Brothers, the purpose of the debate will be to discuss federal funding to rebuild the ci... MORE
Yellow Ledbetter is a first in a series of posts entitled Vintage B-sides/Outtake Classics. I selected this Pearl Jam b-side because I heard it on the way to work yesterday. You know how it is when a song comes on that you haven't played in ages and then the chords and lyrics just take you over. In that moment you remember why you first loved that song. I have to say being a writer, I've always been a lyrics kind of guy. The words are usually the first part that connec... MORE
The reviews from the first night of Pearl Jam's two-night stint at NYC's Madison Square Garden made it sound like people missed out on the best concert ever. Eddie Vedder and co. were really going to have to work hard to out due themselves the second night, and they did. Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley and Ramones bassist C.J. Ramone came out for a few songs. Frehley played on a cover of Kiss' "Black Diamond," while Ramone came out for a cover of his band's "I Believe in... MORE
When Pearl Jam roll into Great Woods and start off the night with a song that has been rarely played in the band's storied career, you know that you've been invited to, well, not so much a 'concert' but an event. NOT an inferior youtube video: "Wash", set opener 6/30/08 (from 'Lost Dogs') and then, after a stellar set, we're treated to another nugget. Eddie and Jeff Ament perform a rare track, played just seven times prior. "Bee Girl" Encore 1 opener, 6/30/... MORE

you gotta love eddie...got the crowd going with a "lets go Rangers" chant. they should totally hire him for a harry carey type role if PJ ever breaks up... I can totally see himup in the booth getting the crowd pumped up. I mean god forbid they break up, but I got a job lined up for ya eddie. Ace Freley came out and they did a cover of some lame KISS song. KISS is lame. There I said it. Only PJ can make them quasi- cool. Youre welcome Gene. Highlight was this crazy evenf... MORE
Roo 2008.
This is mostly a music post... We had a great time in our crew, and of course Jamie and I had a fabulous partners-in-crime time running about destroying (drinking) everything in our path.
A few non-music points just to get out there:
- Sweetwater's "Hummer" beer, despite the horrible name, is a delicious Hef variation
- Bonnaroo is seriously one of the most incredible annual communities; it constantly proves to me things can be all right with s... MORE

Pearl Jam capped its headlining slot Saturday at Bonnaroo with an impassioned rendering of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower," with frontman Eddie Vedder urging the sprawling throng to vote for change this coming November.
"There's a time and place for this kind of talk, right?," he said late in the show, noting that music alone can't change the world, only people like those in front of him can. "It is welded into the Constitution that people have not only the right, b... MORE

So we made our way over to Centeroo after a good rest the night before and steak for breakfast (yeah, we brought disposable grills). Gogol Bordello was playing at 3:30 and we didn't want to miss that. At the Which stage I made my way through the crowd and moshed and shoved my way all the way to the railing and the view was awesome. I got stage dived on, I got a microphone to scream into, I got to shake Eugene's hand (the singer), and I also got to see his backside when he ... MORE
