If you don't know Pavement yet, now would be a good time to change. PS: This video was banned by witless MTV people because it made them dizzy...

Pitchfork Gives Music 6.8

I swear, I had my "Routinely Likes: Albums That Get A 6.8 Pitchfork Rating" thing up waaaay before this article appeared on The Onion. In any case, it's a hilarious read. CHICAGO—Music, a mode of creative expression consisting of sound and silence expressed through time, was given a 6.8 out of 10 rating in an review published Monday on Pitchfork Media, a well-known music-criticism website. According to the review, authored by Pitchfork editor in chief Ryan Schreib... MORE

Blog post image preview I worked all last summer at a very unenjoyable job. If I didn't have this song to listen to in the car on the way to work, I swear I would have driven into on coming traffic. This song makes me feel alive no matter how bad it gets.

Who's the Best [Prolific] Band of the '90s?

I picked up the double disc reissue of Pavement's 1995 album, Wowee Zowee last weekend. I would normally pass up reissues of albums made after 1993 (Björk, Pulp), because they aren't in any need of re-mastering. However, given the strength of the bonus discs from the previous two Pavement albums and the sale price, I couldn't resist. The recent Stylus review of it was interesting. Despite mentioning the album is "not without its faults," it rated it an A+, and went on to c... MORE

Blog post image preview well, i'm pretty freakin' excited!!! straight from pitchfork: "And the moment we've all been waiting for: the tracklist for Matador's deluxe two-disc reissue of Pavement's 1995 album Wowee Zowee . And goddamn, did Matador go all-out. The Sordid Sentinels edition, due out November 7, features a whopping 18 unreleased tracks, including outtakes, live tracks, and radio sessions, as well as a ton of B-sides and random soundtrack and compilation tracks. Did you know... MORE

So I was sitting in the waiting room of my emotional therapist's office today, listening to Pavement's "Wowee Zowee" and reading an old issue of National Geographic backwards. I just thought this might have been profound in that it's one of my surreally zanier moments and I felt completely at home. : )

and so it begins

i am not sure where to begin other than it would appear to me that i have found my ultimate blog site. amen. i have some delightful ramblings and rants planned but i don't want to jump right in yet. instead i shall just say that i am content and listening to the pre-order download of the live pavement set from 1994 in which they try out some of their wowee zowee material. why do i mention this? cuz for some odd reason it doesn't register with mog-o-matic. but oh well... Zowee! for ScheisseMinelli and others who were discussing the Wowee Zowee reissue, here's a link to the Matador page about all the extra extras that come with this if you order from a participating store: http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/?p=200 no info yet on what the stores are - but I'd say keep an eye on the Insound website and the matador site. Matablog is worth checking out regularly, anyway.
