Neko Case dropped some big surprises on her website recently. She announced a short string of live shows at the end of this month after declaring that she's almost finished writing her next album! She also says that she'll be trying out the new material at these live performances, so they are definitely not to be missed! Eric Bachmann, playing solo instead of with his band Crooked Fingers, will open all the shows.

Excellent song. The cinematic feel of this is really intoxicating, evoking a scene of watching a steam locomotive in the distance, and being enticed to board it—wondering where it’s going—much in the Kerouac spirit of discovering one’s destiny of being alone on the road to a brand new identity.

The other night when I was DJing I got in a conversation with the sound man about other great music. We were talking a lot about Bruce Springsteen, then about early Bob Seger, and then he was all like, have you heard Neko Case. I said no, and he said, well you should.
And honestly? He was so right.

Neko Case had just jumped into a car taking her to soundcheck for her Chicago show Wednesday afternoon and was yawning her way through an interview.
