Former Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis's headstone was stolen last night from Macclesfield Cemetery in Cheshire, England. The stone, which bore the inscription: "Ian Curtis 18-5-80" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was stolen between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. This evening I had the pleasure of watching a small independent screening of Control--a recent biopic about Ian Curtis, the late frontman for Joy Division.Joy Division's early photographer Anton Corbijn directed the film. It's been a while since I've posted anything so I chose something special. I recently bought a USB turntable (Stanton T.90) and now I'm dangerous! I've slowly begun converting my vinyl to MP3. I know, sad, but at least I'm ripping at 320kbps. One of my 1st choices of songs was Joy Division's - Love Will Tear Us Apart B-Side Version, because I remember favoring it to the A-Side version. I've been listening to Joy Division lately. And by lately I mean not just occasionally, but most of the time. I have a 40 gig IPod, and it's loaded with over 7,000 songs, with a measly 101 songs by Joy Division, yet it's what's been playing in heavy rotation for the last 4 months.
No, I'm not depressed. No, I'm not OCD (well, maybe a little). I've just found the IPod a particularily nice way to rediscover music, even if a little out of context.

Just got back from 18 days in Japan where I spent most of my time in Tokyo but also visited Kyoto, Osaka, Niigata and Sendai. Picked up a nice Japanese version of Joy Divisions 'Still' (hence the video) and after 2 weeks of Cherry Blossom woke up this morning in London to find 6cm's of Snow!

As I sit here at work... listening to the lovely tunage my ipod shuffles just for me, I am struck by how much I missed you guys !!! I am still recovering, but I am back & ready for action, who's with me ?!?
Let's see... during my hiatus, I listened to music sporadically at best, mostly slept & watched movies & slept some more.

If you will be in the Austin/SXSW area on March 12th or 15th, you have a chance to catch the screening of the Joy Division documentary titled simply, "Joy Division". Producer Tom Atencio will host a Q&A right after the March 12th screening, so that is definitely the one to attend if you want the interactive experience! I found out about this band, Joy Division, from my mother who found out about them because she is a huge fan of The Killers. The Killers recently covered a song called Shadowplay by this English band, Joy Division. A few days ago my mom got a hold of the new independent film, Control. It is about Ian Curtis, lead singer, and his struggle in life.
