Johnny Cash played "every prison song he knew" when he performed live at Folsom Prison in 1968.  Songs like "I Got Stripes," "25 Minutes To Go" and the specially-written "Folsom Prison Blues" are well-known favorites.  But have you heard him play "I'm Here To Get My Baby Out of Jail" from the same concert?  How about "This Ole House" or "June's Poems"?  These are 3 of the 7 songs that weren't included on previous releases of Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison.  But a brand new 3... This follows from Annies post. What brings two people together in an incident such as THIS ? .... what forces converge?... is there meaning in it, or is it a random and unfortunate encounter? How will it affect the people around them? Like ripples from a stone thrown into a pond ... a pond we're all swimming in together. All affecting each other in ways we may or may not comprehend. I won't subject you to Sting... but I have to admit [hangs his head] I like the origi... MORE

I got a promo of the Johnny Cash Remixed project. I must admit I was skeptical. However, it is really cool. The Man in Black didn't believe in labels and without fear crossed genres and broke down barriers. Hell, he spent then end of his career working with Rick Rubin. So I think he would approve. Besides his son is an executive producer.

Check out this MP3 of Big River (Count Da Money Remix)

Blog post image preview Back in November 2005, i did a post on a regular blog entitled They Are Killing My Brothers Again
Today i saw this story on line. It made me cranky.
They called it the "Thousand-yard Stare"

...over 2500 notifications that I have not had time to read over the past 3 months. Damn it feels bad. On one hand there is only so much a person can do and so much music that you can really digest, but I am sure that I missed some fantastic insights. Keep them coming MOG, I will still be around.

...when i did a post called The Thousand-Yard Stare, which stirred up some controversy. However, i think that (setting aside the controversy i touched on in that post) even the MOGger i was arguing with will agree that Viet Nam vets (real combat men, not REMFs like me) got a pretty shabby deal Back In The Day. There's a reason that "Don't mean nothin'" was a Viet Nam mantra... Johnny Cash spent quite a while in Viet Nam a full year, i think - on his own dime, gettin... MORE

Blog post image preview ...i believe. I don't believe in God or the Devil. I don't believe in Heaven or Hell. I believe that when you die, that's it.

But for as long as it takes Johnny Cash to sing Tom Waits' Down There by the Train, i believe. And a tear runs down my cheek.

Who doesn't love this song.American III, American Recordings, and Unchained arrived recently. Nights, mornings I've lain in bed listening. American Recordings and Unchained have yet to have the hearings they deserve. After washing dishes to the accompaniment of American III, I sat in my chair and listened again. This time unfolding the oversized liner notes. Reading these casual reminiscences was a loosening. Turning to the notes for Unchained was my undoing. Veggie burger... MORE
