This very controversial song being covered by Duncan Sheik. I was surprised when I first heard this rendition. This done almost in the vein of Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want, it's so subtle and intimate. The song itself is extremely disturbing once you listen to it's lyrics. One may mistake it for a simple love song because of Marr's ability to create such romantic music, but Morrissey's lyrics pierce through the song like a nail through plywood.

duncan sheik is more than "barely breathing"! i don't know how many times i have to fucking tell people that! he's done 5 albums, and this is off my fave. the lyrics were all written by a british playwright and most of the background instrumentals were done by the london orchestra. this, sufjan steven's "seven swans", and damien rice's "o" are the only albums that bring me to tears every fucking time...... Doesn't matter the size of the venue, it's always an intimate affair with Duncan Sheik. As mentioned in my earlier post, Holly Brook opened for him & she's quite lovely. I need to give a shout out to the USPS - I ordered her CD from Amazon Friday morning, it was in my hands & on my iPod by the afternoon Saturday. Big ups postwoman, you may always ring twice :)

Got some new stuff tonight to reward myself for my first couple of design jobs. Some new anime: Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 1, Ergo Proxy Vol. 1, Speed Grapher Vol. 2 and The Place Promised in Our Early Years (from the same guy who made the incredible Voices of a Distant Star). The Ergo Proxy DVD came with a soundtrack CD that I'll get to eventually.

I'm not entirely sure how under-rated Duncan Sheik really is by the general public, but it seems he is by all the kookie 'indie' kids i hang around with. Its too bad too, because every once in a while an artist like Ducan manages to make a great song. On A High is one of those great pop songs, that I'm honestly surprised isn't more popular, or i should say, ever got more popular. I suppose its doomed to be a great blip in a movie soundtrack.
