I've been out of the loop for the last week... I should have been posting on my fantastic Secret Santa gift from Jenny ( www.mog.com/jenny ) (sorry about that!)... This post should put that right...

I had to do best-of lists for PopMatters this week, and I don't have anything else to put up at the moment, so I thought I'd throw it out there.
My list has changed a little bit since I submitted it to Harp a month or so ago...it would probably change a little bit every time I looked at it. I've never been very good at setting my preferences in stone. I guess I'd better not run for president.

Michael just posted about The Far Now, David Kilgour's latest album, and I told him it was my favorite for the year so far. It's a wonderful album, inexplicably passed over...I know everybody's into Arcade Fire and all, but come on, make some time for this. Here's my review, which ran in PopMatters in mid-January:

David Kilgour, onetime leader of the New Zealand rock band, The Clean, has a new solo album, his sixth, The Far Now, and you can stream the whole thing right now at the Merge Records site. And if you like great pop rock in the Dylan meets The Beatles tradition, check it out.

Mr. Kilgour is one of the greats of the New Zealand/Flying Nun label music scene and used to be in the totally legendary band The Clean.
