OK. Fine. I admit. I missed this one. I don't know how it happened. Either it didn't make a big splash, or I got stuck playing Endtroducing... I guess both are true. Meanwhile, Josh Davis, who slammed the above mentioned monumental debut back in 1996, returned a decade later with a third DJ Shadow album. The Outsider may surprise (and/or disappoint) any DJ Shadow fan. The album has only a few instrumental tracks, and it's pretty hip-hop heavy, featuring a long list of West Co... MORE
This DJ Shadow dude is a frickin' genius. I wish I could pick his brain. I know I'm jockin', the guy but fuck he's awesome. And I totally respect him even more for doing the OUTSIDER album because he broke away from his usual style and made an experimental classic with Bay Area Hyphy artists like Turf Talk and E-40. Much love for dude. I hope he lives a long, long time.... MORE
Hola.
No post directly about a song itself yet. I'm extremely busy at work, but should have some time later today to pump out a good read.
In any case, the interim post is this one. I may be selling tickets I have to see DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist in New York this upcoming weekend. Due to the aformentioned career-related busyness, there's a possibility of not going.
If I decide to sell them, the interested party and I can talk about the actual logistics of the t... MORE

For the most part, it was supposed to be a profile showcase of two time tested DJ's working their craft the old fashioned way: no computers, just the w... MORE
There are certain songs that just ooze brilliance. They make you lose words & fill your head with images. This is one of mine. Take a piece of catharsis, dip it in sweet-tasting tears, spray it with sparks & harmony, add a hint of heart-warming melancholy and you'll get the taste.
This is a video with a live version of it. I shudder just by the very thought of experiencing this song live.
You can get it here.... MORE
DJ Shadow will begin a U.S. tour April 23 at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR. The Bay Area, CA based artist's most recent album was 2006's The Outsider. Shadow will play two festivals - Coachella and Bonnaroo -- and a sprinkling relatively intimate venues including the Fillmore in San Francisco.

So if The Private Press had come out before Endtroducing....., would people think better of it? Or if it had come out less than two years after the debut, do you think DJ Shadow might have fortified his rep and rate higher today? Beats me, but I suspect he (and Press)'d get a little more respect.
His latest CD, The Outsider, sadly won't help his cause. It's not necessarily because of Shadow - that he just doesn't exercise an acceptable level of creativity or that his ... MORE
