CONCERT REVIEW: Bob Dylan Blows An Anti-War Message Through Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Blog post image preview Bob Dylan Live: Prospect Park Brooklyn Listening to Dylan live today can be equated to listening to Dylan in the early 60s via transistor radio in a cornfield in Nebraska. His voice live is almost unrecognizable, like it’s been dragged through tobacco fields naked, tortured for years in smokey bars with no windows, lugged through tired deserts of American heartland, washed out to sea and beached back again, and then hung to dry for too long on radio antennas everywhere. O... MORE

What's Ur Favorite Dylan Song and Why?

What memory does it unfurl. I'm heading to Prospect Park tonight to check him and am psyched. Haven't seen the man in a while. And while I've heard these days his live set (read: voice) is a little weary, I feel like Dylan's music holds a special squishy spot in most people's proverbial 'sentimental heart'. For those who have seen his career evolution, his stack of albums are like totem poles of personal history.
I went through a serious Dylan phase when I was 16... MORE

'Tell Tale Signs' is a three-disc album that will include rarities and b-sides from the last twenty years. If you're wondering what a 10 year old rarity from Mr. Dylan sounds like, he's offering a sample called 'Dreamin' Of You' over at his official website as a teaser. "Tell Tale Signs, out on October 6, is comprised of unreleased studio recordings, demos, rare songs from soundtracks and some live versions, all recorded between 1989 and 2006." Notable Dylan albums re... MORE

On February 17, 1965, I knew, of course, who Bob Dylan was. He was the guy who wrote "Blowin' In The Wind," and "Don't Think Twice," and the liner notes of a Peter, Paul & Mary album that my sister had. But Dylan didn't seem like part of my musical world. I was more of a top 40 fan, not too crazy about the 'folk revival."  I did watch Les Crane's late-night TV show on ABC-TV. It was the first place I ever saw The Rolling Stones (an interview, not a performance). And ... MORE

"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."

The immortal words of David Wooderson. The man, the myth, the legend. And in a movie full of great scenes, one of the most memorable for me is when Wooderson enters the Emporium, slo-mo style, set to Dlyan's 'Hurricane'.

For those several seconds, he was the epitome of late 1970's small town cool.

I wish I could give you more information as to who's playin' on this track, or where, or when in '76 it happened. All I know is he doesn't perform this song very often. So, what's the connection? You connect the dots.

YOU WILL NEVER HEAR DEADMANDEADMAN SINGING....

(17)

....the one known tape of me singing is kept locked in a secret vault deep in the bowels of the Vatican, only taken out during the most extreme excorcisms.  Yes, even the most vile demons run screaming in terror at the sound of me singing. <<<<But enough of that.  Bob Dylan,  maybe you've heard of him?  This is one of his '92 rejects.  Its obviously a rough cut.  But his ability as a master vocalist shines through

Not much is certain about the authorship of this, most of us believe its a mostly ad-libbed one-off Dylan thing that sorta grew to a point that building a song around it (with an eye towards "real" lyrics later?) seemed like a good idea. This was recorded during the (in)famous Bromberg Sessions.

MAYBE ITS JUST AN EXCUSE TO POST THIS SONG AGAIN, I DON"T KNOW, "THINGS HAVE CHANGED"

Album: The Essential Bob Dylan

Yeah,  that's it...an excuse to post this track.    A Bob Dylan concert is an event in itself,  though these days they are best left to the true believers.  Its easy to spot the  folks who are here to see a legend, here to get that notation on their hip resume, or fullfilling a task on the bucket list.  They're usually glassy-eyed & weary halfway through the second song.  The True Believers, oblivious to tedium, hang on each jumble of squashed phrases & st... LIVE MUSIC IS BETTER.

Idiot Wind Along with Positively 4th Street offer a glimpse of The spokesman for his generation in full throated pissed off mode. In their original versions, each of these songs dripped with irony, anger, venom & fire. Idiot wind was written by an older, wiser man, still capable of rage and fury, but self-aware enough to know he's not blameless. And so one understands if these songs surface rarely in concert. Time, its said, heals all wounds. But contemplating the... MORE
