This got me thinking Certainly no discussion of the old masters can be had without mentioning "Mississippi" Fed McDowell. His slide playing is awesome. (And I use that absurdly over abused term advisedly). He draws on and enlarges the vocabulary of giants. Willie McTell, Barbeque Bob and others echo in Fred McDowell's sound. The Howling demon at the Crossroads wails in the haunted pleas of Fred McDowell's slide. With Fred, the guitar becomes an equal partner in a performance. He converses with it, argues with it. His guitar becomes the Greek Chorus, commenting on the lyric, completing whole verses. Mississippi Fred McDowell. You can bet Stevie Ray Vaughan listened. Duane Allman heard it too.

perfect post, me and the hillbillies at work loved it...we listened to it up in the 'valley'...we put the concert speakers 50 yards out by the line of the woods and blare the Sirius radio, OUTLAW COUNTRY....very cool J.

I wish I were there TD ... that 'sounds' cool! Did it stir all the critters? Seriously - I have noticed birds take note of music like this ... chirp right along in happiness. Proof man - proof! 190% Great cuts DMDM - thanks! That Greek Chorus idea is brilliant - so true.

O, precious and joyous guitar accompanying that raspy sweet voice. I really need to plunge in that Mississippi FM...

my yodeling days are long gone Michael ;)
FASTRMACR--open field, big fire, hill billies shooting shotguns and terrorizing the open field and trails on 4 wheelers and dirtbikes tends to scare the bluebirds away!!!
