Maxwell at Radio City Music Hall - October 9, 2008
VIDEO: Maxwell Singing Fortunate (no I did not tape this but thank you to the kind soul on youtube who uploaded this video!)
reprinted from my myspace blog with a few modifications
Okay I have to just get this off my chest because I have been quite annoyed with what happened to me.
maxwell was impeccable at Radio City Music Hall on October 9. The reviews you have read are on point but I honestly could not enjoy maxwell's performance as I would have liked to....
I must have been sitting next to the biggest maxwell groupie (not like I am one to but DAYUM) and she was feeling on herself and screaming, "sing that shyt boy" and then she started yelling out, "I will work your NARROW ass boy." Then, on top of that the woman was moaning and groaning. I was shocked and livid that I paid over $100 for my damn seats which were in the orchestra but in XX land next to this heffer!
Honestly, I had no idea what to expect but the noise from the lady next to me was hard to accept as she told me that she had seen maxwell 25 times and how she had followed him up and down the east coast since the beginning of his career.
What was even crazier is that she tells me that she went to a house party last year and how she did not realize that she was dancing with yours truly, yes maxwell. I don't know if I could believe her or not. This woman told me she was 42 so I am trying to figure out why are you going to chase this poor man up and down the East coast that many times. Though I adore maxwell, there is no way I am going to do that for any artist unless you are Jesus Christ!
I am all about supporting and enjoying a musician's work but DAMN, may I please HEAR maxwell sing?
Maybe a DVD of his concert will happen? I don't know. And, I hope that her voice is not all up in it screaming, "I WILL WORK YOUR NARROW ASS." (ugh)
The only thing that saved my sanity was the maxwell fan forum (www.maxwellfanforum) with Silawn and meeting everyone after wards (Chyna, Crystal, Venus, Joletta, etc.). I was pretty much disgusted with what I had to go through because I could barely hear anything over this woman screaming in my EAR. I was not the only person who was annoyed but my entire row was quite disturbed with her actions.
What even alarmed me even more was how I thought I was special trying to sneak in my camera to video tape maxwell then all of a sudden when homeboy starts singing I think EVERYONE one and their mama popped out their own video cameras/cameras to video tape. I have some video of the concert but to tell you the truth after watching maxwell on BET's access granted I pretty much am on the same wave length as him, "why spoil it for others." I don't have that much video but the little I have reminded me of what I was trying to focus in on. But, unfortunately you may hear the woman, SCREAMING into my camera! I am not uploading it to youtube.
I have a playlist that I did write out of all the songs but you know at this point, who really cares?
You know he premiered the three new songs so that is it.
Yeah he told jokes!
Moaned and groaned (blah blah) Yeah, he was kind of working that microphone stand like it was a woman. Hmm..nice going for the screamer next to me maxwell! I think that is when she started getting crazier!
The one song I really adore by him was not performed, "Softly, Softly." In fact, this fanatic said she had never heard him perform it.
So you know what..although I adore all of you guys to death (who read me), I have no desire to see maxwell in concert again. This first experience really was not that great for me.
I have tickets to see maxwell in Washington, DC but, you know, I am not so hyped on going. If the same thing happens, I have no desire to see him in concert again. I will buy the music, support the cause but I am not that deranged over maxwell.
It's all about the music and if I have to go through having my arms pulled at and screams in my ear, I rather risk my sanity with a live album from maxwel.
Sorry for being so negative about all of this but if that heffa was not sitting next to me yelling in my ear, I don't think I would be so STANK.
If I ever write a decent review I will write something.
So now you know the truth. I won't lie about this maxwell situation anymore. I had a not so great experience at the concert but it was NOT about maxwell but his #1 fan going crazy in my EAR.
This was the first time ever in all the years of me going to a concert have I ever been so distracted and disturbed.
Fortunately what happened AFTER the concert made up for my funk but I never shared any of my real feelings of how mad I was with any of the maxwell fans for I did not want to ruin their music high that they were on. I honestly wanted to go home and crawl in my bed.
Please don't ever allow anyone to ruin your experience like that!
On a side note, I helped Silawn with the gift basket that was delivered to maxwell and I signed those granny panties that were thrown to him on stage. So, at least that is what I can laugh about and be satisfied at least I hopefully made the brother laugh if he needed one! I wrote, "JROSE says you have cooties! LMAO."
Thank you, Silawn for rescuing my sanity! Now, you really know the truth of why I was so quiet about the entire event but being with you and the other fans made up for the confusion all around me!

Oh man, that's too bad Jennifer! I can relate since my last concert experience wasn't the best due to the venue being bad. Did you ask that woman to keep it down at all? Sometimes a reality check like that can make them realize it's not all about them. The odds are that you will have a far better experience at the DC show. I wouldn't skip it, especially since you had such an awful time at this show AND you already have tickets.
I've encountered people like this before & it truly sucks when you're trying to hear the music.

@augusts1 - wow, you have had that stupid stuff happen to? I asked her a few times, "please calm down." But, she was not paying attention to me or anyone around her who was giving her the evil eye.
She was a little tipsy from the alcohol she was consuming. I am looking forward to the DC show!
Thank you for reminding me I have another change to TRY to enjoy the music. I fought hard for these tickets too. I actually got them from a friend who works with a radio station so I am not to sure exactly where I am sitting but they should be decent. Thank you for the support, Augusts1! [hugz]

Sounds like she was ALOT tipsy from the alcohol, lol. It's amazing how inhibitions fly out the door when a person starts drinking!
I hope you have some great seats for the DC show or at the least are able to enjoy Maxwell's music w/o the distraction of an annoying alcoholic yelling. I think you will! ((((((((((Jennifer))))))))))))

I'm praying on it, Augusts1! Even if not good seats if I don't have someone having an orgasm next to me then I am good! [hugz]
My Trusted MOGs
Blame the orgasm on Maxwell's sexy ass singing, haha!
