One of the first films I ever watched on a VCR (remember those?) back in the early 80s was National Lampoon's Vacation. Its still one of my favorites today. Another one of those time capsule films that reminds me of my childhood growing up in All-American Land. Heres the rockin' main theme of the film sung by Fleetwood Mac' alumni Lindsey Buckingham. Its great track for a Friday to send you off to the adventures of your weekend!

Man, I can't help watching this every time it's on! Chevy reminds me of my father in his goofy well intentioned ways. I actually prefer European Vacation since it was the first PG-13 movies I ever saw ( and I saw it before Vacation, which is admitedly the better movie). I just fell in love with them traveling all over Europe and the wackiness of the Griswolds being inflicted on another continent. They are the ultimate "stoopid amer-ee-kans"! But we owned European Vacation on tape and I have probably watched it more than any other movie. It "mysteriously disappeared" one day. I think Clark Griswold must have thrown it away because he was so sick of us watching it.

Look kids! Big Ben! Parliament!

I liked European but the first one is def my favorite. So many moments I love. From picking up the car to the video game map to the car singalongs to the St Louis wrong turn to Cousin Eddies house, Ant Edna, Dinkys demise, the pissed on sandwich...and on and on. :)

And we have the movie to thank us for most of our introduction to John Hughes - of whom without the 80's landscape of film would have been sorely lacking. Supposedly, many of those events actually happened when his family drove cross country to go to Disney World (the aunt died, Disney was closed). I'm sure some was exaggerated for comic effect, but they don't get much better than that.

A big reason why I like the film is probably because of John Hughes. He really wrote and directed some awesome films when he was working. His stuff was such an incredible cinematic portrait of American culture in the 80s.

I caught my nieces and nephew watching "Pretty In Pink" recently, and I was surprised at how well they stood up, and they still seem to strike a chord to teenagers. That's some good film making if I say so myself.

Don't much care about seeing the "Vacation" films again. Yes, I smirked - a lot. But once was enough, thank you. On the other hand, Lindsey Buckingham rules!
