It's that time of year
Time for reflection and thanks and resolutions anew
2008 has been exceedingly kind to me: completing two new records, writing tunes that self wow me, and meeting a wondrous new lady. I have been pushing the bounds of happiness for me and it has been absolutely bizarre.
On the fantasy tip, I made my debut lp produced by Bobby Harlow from The Go, singer/songwriter and producer of one of my absolute all time favorite bands.Jon Krautner, singer/songwriter and bassist for The Go, played on it too. The attached is sung by him. Enjoy it.
Thanks to all of you moggers who entertain and stimulate me endlessly with your strange factoids and hilarious and informative posts.
I don't listen to radio. You are the ones who turn me on.
Have a wonderful and relaxing holiday season.

Bob Seeger's version above will always have a special place in my heart, but the beatbox version was certainly something to behold the other night at Carnegie Hall. Wish I could find it on YouTube.
Twas the now annual McGarrigle Christmas Hour with Rufus, Martha, Teddy Thompson, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, EmmyLou Harris, and Jimmy Fallon (who actually seemed to be prepared and didn't laugh his way through his tunes, I was shocked!).
It was a gorgeous eve of organic Xmas caroling from an extremely talented bunch of family and friends.
On the personal adventure tip, I went out at intermission to buy three champagnes for my friends and when I tried to bring them inside was roundly told, they were not allowed in. "Why then did you sell them to me after intermission had ended?" I wondered not so quietly. "Did you think I would be pounding three ten dollar champagnes myself after the second act had already begun?" There was no response. So, I simply pounded three ten dollar champagnes after the second act had already begun and sauntered back to our nosebleed seats.
Being in the nosebleed seats for a Rufus Wainwright show at Carnegie Hall is like being in the bleechers at Yankee Stadium. There are obnoxious and extremely loud fans at both. Though at Yankee Stadium, they are from the mean streets of the Boogie Down Bronx and at a Rufus show at Carnegie Hall, they are from Chelsea.
But I digress....
Rufus' Aunt Ann had quite a lot of soul, power and beauty in her vox and Laurie Anderson did some mad keyboard monologue with her voice going through a processor to make it sound like Darth Vader, commenting cynically on society at large. It was a showstopper. Loved it. Lou was a bit off key on his first tune. I thought to myself, who is trying to rip off Lou Reed poorly? We were quite high up, so I was not aware it was him until he nailed his parts a bit later and Rufus introduced him. "He's Lou and I'm Ru."
I must explore some more Teddy Thompson. He seemed a tasteful man.
Rufus sang silent night with his man as the finale. Enjoy.

Damn! Wish I'd been there. Quite a tease to hear about so many highpoints and get only one clip. But I should be thankful for small favors...
Digging Rufus' coat of many colours there! Did the altitude of your setas make the champagne work stronger?
yeah, m the k, maybe they'll do a vid one year, but that's all i could find
unfortunately, rufus' man was not the most gifted performer of the eve
but i would think handling rufus is a talent all its own
sir john, i was already a few sheets to the wind prior to those three glasses, so....
i really can't say what the effect of the height as a variable was in my tipsyness
On the way to work this am, I flipped through the free daily, which was given to me by a man who said, "God bless you," as he handed each one out. This was trippy enough, but to then turn to the headline
Military Blasts AC/DC, 'Barney' Music at Detainees
was beyond what my mind could process before my morning joe.
Here are a few of the songs listed as effective torture tunes.....
Enter Sandman - Metallica
Shoot to Thrill and Hell's Bells - AC/DC
Born in the USA - Bruce
Sesame Street theme song
These seem way too obvious and overt to get the desired result
Who the hell is in charge of this playlist?
Let's get a little torture mix going here moggers
Right Said Fred's I'm Too Sexy on a loop for 24 hours would be a lot more effective to get some info from these guys than Hell's Bells, which would probably just remind them of the jihad promise of dozens of virgins in heaven awaiting them for eternity.
Whaddya think?
My guitarist sent me this hot dog song from the mickey mouse club last week. His kid is obsessed and my friend has clearly been traumatized by repeated listens. Perhaps they should be using this in Guantanamo?

they got in trouble at Guantanamo for using David Gray this past year

also a questionable selection
if you're gonna torture, do it right i say!
anything by children of bodom.
what an abhorrant excuse for a metal band.

Happy Xmas Neil... I wonder what the video to this would look like...? :)
