For the past year I've done my best to tell everyone how great The Books are.
My first album by them was "Lemon of Pink". I didn't know what hit me. I could not resist. One of my favorite albums. It makes me so happy whenever I give it a spin.
I moved on to "Lost and Safe". An equally great album.
Last week I went back to an older album. "Thought For Food". So so so good as well.
A bit more strange I'd say. Check out the piece "Contempt" in this mixwit tape. Plain weir... MORE

The Books are Under the Covers today with a live performance of Nick Drake's Cello Song (from 1969's Five Leaves Left), recorded via M-Audio Micro Track 24/96 2-channel mobile digital recorder at the Concert Hall at the New York Society for Ethical Culture last April 30th. The show was part of the 2007 Wordless Music Series.

so simple, so sweet sweet. the books really remind me of chris gunst mixed witha dash of lali puna and goodness. this video is (as my grandmama would say) just lovely.

so i re-registered and whatever seemed to be off is working now, so while i wait for the 5-6 hour process of MOG indexing what i have, i started thinking about my upcoming trip to Ohio and music's pivotal role it plays when it can be the only familiar thing in an unfamiliar place.

I don't think I've ever heard a more amazing band, and I'm pretty effin' serious when I say this. The books specialize in utilizing and sampling "found music" in their songs along with string instruments and digital melodies. If you want an example of cool found stuff, go to www.foundmagazine.com. I recently purchased their three albums, The Lemon of Pink, Thought For Food, and Lost and Safe. They are such a wonderful band, such ambience but so technical at the same time.... MORE

Yesterday I bought the Lemon of Pink album by The Books. Today I took it with me on my daily bike-ride going downtown. I was blown away. This is like nothing I've heard before. I am amazed by the amount of work these guys must have put into this. Eveything is so perfect and the sound is as warm as today's weather. I hear so much joy and love of life in these songs. When I first got the album "Lost and Safe" by The Books several months ago, I didn't really care for it. It just didn't click with me.
But in the past month or so I picked it back up and have been enjoying it quite a lot. I think the listening environment was what prevented me from originally getting into it. It's a quiet, subtle album and demands to be paid attention to. If I have it on as background music while I'm doing something else, it's not a very good album. ... MORE

So, I downloaded Lost and Safe from eMusic last week and it's pretty much been on repeat ever since.
Any recommendations on what I should check out next from them?
