For a rainy, reflective tuesday afternoonThe album cover claims that the posthumously released Time Of No Reply contains “10 previously unreleased tracks, including 7 completely new songs, plus the 4 ‘last session’ tracks” that were recorded in 1974. Billboard.com, MTV.com and Pitchfork are reporting about an eerie obsession Heath Ledger had with Nick Drake, the singer who died young in 1974. As this is the debut post on my new informal blog/notepad, A rare, rare find..., <http://rarerarefind.blogspot.com/> I should probably come clean about the title I have chosen for the blog. It is, as many will know, a quote from a song by late great songwriter, guitarist and singer, Nick Drake. I've just finished slowly treading my way through Nick Drake’s “Family Tree,” an album featuring recordings he made before 1969's “Five Leaves Left.” While its appeal is probably limited, I think it's worthwhile for those of us interested in hearing Drake's progression as a songwriter.
Be warned though, "Family Tree" is difficult to take in one sitting(28 tracks/bad sound quality), but ultimately it rewards perseverance with interesting covers(one with sister Gabrielle)... MORE

As previously reported, The estate of the late singer-songwriter Nick Drake release an album of his rarities and classics. Family Tree (Tsunami LG/Fontana) dropped June 19. Drake's estate has allowed for a Nick Drake Myspace page featuring a video and a few songs off the album. Well this year, I've seen (discounting festivals), such bands as Chemical Brothers, Editors, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Richard Hawley, VNV Nation, Miles Hunt, Seasick Steve and Interpol I've seen them each a few times each this year - a bit repetitive but was really struggling to get fired up about some of the new acts out there.
