Life has been moving pretty fast lately. Ridiculously fast. Today was no different. Honestly I can’t believe that it’s already Thursday {and I’ll be traveling for the weekend so this is, unfortunately, the last post of this week}. Anyway, as I was sitting at work today the sometimes awkward tunes of Modest Mouse kept me focused and working hard. To be honest it was one song in particular that really kept my attention today. There’s something about the lyrics of this ... MORE

...and good riddance to it. Beware, folks. This could be a long one. So...that thing happened last night. You may have caught it on the news. Some black guy won something-or-other in some country. I know. Kinda crazy, right? So, about a month ago I outted myself as a racist on my girl Charles' mog. Sorry, this isn't quite coming together the way I planned. It's sort of like...where to start? The first time I was ever called a nigger was by my best. ... MORE

I've had this mash up lying around for ages meaning to post it because it is one of the finest examples of why mash ups aren't just novelties. I can't remember who it was who made this, but it's a mix of Modest Mouse's "The World At Large" which is taken from "Good News For People Who Like Bad News" which came out a few years ago and Ratatat's "Beat #6" from their recent EP . Obviously it's very well made, otherwise I wouldn't bother posting it, but I'm not really s... MORE

I was just sitting there, watching TV, when BLAM! There it was, a chevy car commercial and what should be playing in the background but an elevator music version of Float On by MM. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Say it ain't so! Please I beg you take a Kings of Leon song or something. Leave the Mouse alone! I couldn't believe it. Hands trembling, brow sweating. Must get coffee and cigarette. Ugh!

Tony Hawk interviews Isaac Brock and Johnny Marr before the start of one of Modest Mouse's shows.
Hawk seems like a natural at the music journalist racket. Move over Lester Bangs!

I randomly got a craving for some Modest Mouse, so I figured maybe you did too. Modest Mouse is one of those bands that I've had trouble coming to terms with over the years. When I discovered them, I loved them. 2000's The Moon and Antarctica was my shit. I felt like I was on the same wavelength as them, and that dull, purplish album stayed in my Jeep's CD player for weeks at a time.
By the time Good News for People Who Love Bad News came out in 2004, I was barely int... MORE

May 31, I had the pleasure of attending the R.E.M and Modest Mouse concert @ The Greek Theater in Berkeley. (Super cool venue by the way.) Opening was The National of which I hadn't really heard a whole lot from them. They kinda had a Coldplay feel to them. But I can tell you the one thing I was most impressed by was the instrumentals more than anything. Although I am a sucker for great musical talent. I think I counted a total of 8 people on stage all playing a differen... MORE
Modest Mouse just released a animated and psychedelic new video for their song "Fly Trapped In A Jar". The video was directed by The Saline Project and it looks like the band is performing in a bubblegum world somewhere in Second Life.
"Fly Trapped In A Jar" is off their 2007 release, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
