I was digging up some old burned cd's and found a really old Gilles Peterson Worldwide compilation, with some forgotten goodies like Gotan Project on it. Thought you all would like it.
Sun is out down here in New Orleans, and there is an earthy smell that reminds me that even when there is not much of a winter, there is always the arrival of Spring. Happy hump day (Wednesday)...
While searching for videos from Gotan Project I stumbled across this short interview. A few of you are listening to Gotan Project and there had also been some reviews, so I thought, it might be of interest for you, what they have to say about their own music and their relation to tango. Don't bother that the first few words are in German, the interview is held in English. And here's a small live-recording of "Queremos paz" (We want peace), though it doesn't se... MORE
It's always interesting to see live interviews with an artist or group whose music you have fallen for. It gives you a more wholistic view of the music and how it was made.
This gets me even more excited to see these guys at the Treasure Island Music Festival in September!
So I went to see GoTan Project on a whim at the Sydney Opera House last week, and thought I'd MOG it. For those that don't know them, they're a Franco-Argentine collective, comprising a string quartet, vocalist, Spanish guitarist, pianist and . . . wait for it . . . two DJs. well, maybe not everywhere, but all over nip/tuck last season and made an appearance in tonight's season premiere as well. fantastic!
So, I'm going to see Gotan Project at the Brixton Academy this Friday. I'm guessing not, but are any other Moggers?
I've never done this "see you there" kind of post (except when I've been DJing), so just to let you know; I'll be there with my wife & 2 friends, and if you ask me to touch you I'll scream. Unless you offer to buy me a drink. Then I'll probably do anything.
For those who don't know, they sound like this:
Not a super-tripped out video, but still a very enjoyable one. It doesn't hurt that Diferente's such a great track either. Hopefully you're already familiar with Gotan Project, but if you're not, watch the video and then get their album La Revancha del Tango; it's great stuff. Lunático, the album this track came from isn't bad either, but start with La Revancha del Tango, and you'll fall in love with their sound.
The Gotan Project have a great site, so you should check it out: Gotan Project.
You get a choice of languages, too.
