Duffy's gone on record with Shortlist stating shes totally in favor of fans stealing music. According to the singer, free music has the ability to change peoples lives and who wouldn't want that?
"Well, I mean, it can go two ways – there are pros and cons to everything," she told Shortlist. "Some people think it creates illegal access, but I think the big wheel is round, y'know? I think it's got more positives because it basically gives people access, what's the harm in that?
"Somebody asked me the other day what I thought of illegal downloading, and I thought, 'You know what? I don't care', because I think the majority [doing it] are kids and as they get old and get more income they'll probably buy records. So it's just making music a part of everyone's lives."
But of course.... Duffy happens to be one of the highest selling artists overseas, if she was a struggling with lagging record sales, would she feel the same way?

Kids get it. Why would they pay for it? In their short time as teenagers, it's always been free. Kinda the way people used to treat radio, when it wasn't format driven.
I listened to a Tom Petty interview, and he recalled sitting around in his car waiting for a song to replay, so he coud write down the lyrics. He said he had to listen to it about 3 times to get it. Now some might have bought the record, people really didn't buy a lot of music in those days (I can only assume), like we do now. Especailly broke teenagers.
Duffy knows it's about touring to generate capital, she's young and capable of doing it to make a living. Older musicians who've seen revenue streams dry up, probably aren't so optimistic.
