MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album: An Invitation With Van Dyke Parks
Track:
(142)

We start with the singer, whose name is Inara George and who is the daughter of the late Lowell George, the leader of a band that was, in the early '70s, quite amazing. That band was Little Feat and if you listen to their first three or four albums, you'll be blown away.

Lowell's daughter has made a wonderful second album and to do that she enlisted Van Dyke Parks, the great arranger/collaborater who worked with Brian Wilson on the "Smile" album and did arrangements for Randy Newman albums and many others. Anyway, check this track out.

C'mon, Michael. Don't forget that most hipsters know her as half of the way-cool, slyly romantic, slightly retro, ever harmonious L.A. pop duo The Bird & The Bee (whose debut album was one of the Knife's must-haves in 2007).

Inara's a good friend of mine, and anything she does is great.  We met several years ago when she was in a band called Merrick before she went on a tear and came out with several solo and band albums that have gotten her much deserved respect.

While she was at it, i got her to sing a track i put together for my "Altered States" album.  It's a version of the Johnny Mathis classic "Chances Are", but I did it in sort of a Patsy Cline direction.  People seem to dig it and you can stream it (under "MUSIC") on:

Robin, That's very cool. I'd love to hear the track she's on. And Mike, thanks for filling in a few more details of Ms. George's resume :-)

Visiting LA buddies ... My friend Tim Aaron & I are discussing how much I still love Little Feat ... "Here" he says as handing me his cell phone ... So I spoke to Inara for 1/2 an hour about how much love the LF community still has For Her! She thought because her music was so different it would translate into love for what she does ... But good is good! Inara Is Good!
