MOG

A cool chick took me to see the Red Sparowes at Mercury Lounge last week. Always a good sign if a girl not only chooses where you go on a first date, but she takes you to a rock show. Red Sparowes really blew me away live. Mastering the soft, loud, soft, loud, loud, loud!! pattern, yet somehow avoiding predictability and complacency, Red Sparowes rocked like an emotionally strung-out Mogwai (not sure what that means but its good). Each song built in my head slowly as each pogression unfolded like a perfectly thought out chess move, each note played deliberately to shift your mood to create an unrecognizable emotion. The interlocking guitars complimented each other perfectly, against the roaring drumming coming from the bass of a scenic/ psychadelic backdrop. The booze was flowing well, the cowd was hypnotically bobbing their head, and my date went flawlessly as neither of us said anything for an hour. Nicely done, Sparowes...
