Earlier in the week I sent out a warning to hide your youngsters because rocker turned sex offender Gary Glitter was released from Vietnamese prison, after serving two years and nine months. Glitter was deported from the country and booked on a flight to his native England, where he had also once been imprisoned on child porn charges. Glitter's not there yet, though.
Glitter refused to board his originally scheduled flight to the UK Tuesday night, complaining of an earache. (Good! Let him suffer for his ludicrous acts.) Glitter doesn't want to go back to the UK, so he was going to try and stay in Thailand. But Thai customs wouldn't let him into the country, so Glitter flew to Hong Kong. Hong Kong didn't want him either. So, where in the world is Gary Glitter? Back in Thai land where immigration police are still denying his entry into the country because Thai laws barr those convicted of child sex abuse in a foreign country to cross the border. HiS only option is going back to UK. An unidentified spokesperson for the airline told the AP that airline left him with the only option to fly to England.

Yesterday the New York Times published a story on former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne's latest project. No, it's not another album with Brian Eno. And, sadly, it's not a some plan to reform the Talking Heads (What a plan that would be!)
Byrne, an avid biker, designed nine bike racks that incorporate a theme/trademark of the particular part of New York City they were nailed into. The dollar sign bike rack stands in the Wall street neighborhood. The high heel bike rack was installed uptown, near all the chic boutiques and department stores like Bergdorf Goodman.
This adds Byrne to my list of eco-freindly musicians. Bike more, drive less. And in the words of Byrne himself, "It’s a little faster than walking."

Top row, left to right: MoMA, Olde Times Square and Villager
Middle row, left to right: Coffee Cup, Wall Street and Ladies’ Mile
Bottom row, left to right: Hipster, Chelsea and Jersey.
My personal fav is the one titled Jersey in the shape of a car geniously located near the Lincoln Tunnel entrance, which leads out to New Jersey. Got any ideas for others?

I vote chelsea - the viewer in front of the gallery. Damn, he is so good!
Coming from the only person who rejoices the gas prices get higher and higher (then everyone will have to ride a bike and we will finally rid ourselves the the worst invention evr - the car), David gets 10 stars from me!
How about a big head to go in front of the Trump Towers?
Adevil with a chefs hat for Hell's Kitchen?
Silhouette of James brown singing into a mike for The Apollo?
Sheryl Crow isn't exactly giving away an album for free. She's giving her album away for free AND taking the "lazy" out of "lazy American voters."
The multiple Grammy winner is giving away 50,000 digital copies of her album Detours, released last February to the first 50,000 people who register three friends to vote. The genuine marketing ploy is a kickstart to Rock The Vote's voter registration drive.

"I hope people wake up and emotionally engage in issues," Crow told the AP in an exclusive interview about the drive. "Our music (now) is not representing the times — at least not socially and politically. Or maybe we're just distracted." Detours, however, touches issues like Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq War and breast cancer.
Crow's also coughing up a free download of her track "Gasoline" to anyone registered with Rock the Vote.
Marketing ploy or a genuine act to inspire? Your thoughts?

Good for her -- I already bought the CD, and am already registered to vote.
I think Sheryl has plenty of money at this stage in her career. I know some people don't like her, but I think her heart is in the right place. She's done more than a lot of stars on behalf of others.
Also, I like Detours - it's a little quieter than most of her previous music and it grew on me.
I gotta admit, I don't have Detours. So I was like, "Perfect. I'll get it for FREE this way." I went to the link to sign up and signed up and all, but then thought, "Do I really want to annoy my friends with more spam in their inbox? So I didn't do the register 3 friends thing. Now, I feel like I'm eating my own words. Does it make me lazy? I'm thinking I was being more along the lines of thoughtful. I just might go back and do but the 50,000, with my luck, will be gone.

Thai laws barr those convicted of child sex abuse in a foreign country to cross the border.
What? That's like Dubya telling the Russians that they were very very naughty for invading a sovereign nation on a trumped-up pretext!
Check out the Don't! Buy! Thai! website, for instance. (It hasn't been updated in years, but it lays out the basics of the situatio.)
Now, things may be better in Thailand, but it still has a very unsavoury reputation, particularly in regard to forced child prostitution...
Couldn't the Thais send him to Australia? That would save GB the hassle of dancing around the Pedophile legal shuffle. I'm sure that GG could find something in the Outback that would suit his deviant lifestyle.
Thanks for the Don't! Buy! Thai! link, Fairport! It's a shame but I LOVE the food...
