Personally, I'm a Rock Band kind of girl, but this ...this just might make me change my mind. Guitar Hero meet your worst nightmare: Guitar Praise, a God-praising, Jesus-worshiping version of the music video game. Don't buy it just so St. Peter will meet you with open arms at the pearly gates, buy it for the 50 plus abstinence-preaching Christian rock songs that are included, like Kutless' "Hearts of the Innocence", Jonah 33's "Father's Song," Skillet's "Rebirthing" and Thousand Foot Krutch's "The Flame In All Of Us." That last song sounds totally metal. Don't believe me, then check this video out...

This game is set to take genuflection to the next level, but it'll cost you $99 for the game and guitar console, $69 for just the guitar console -- a lot more than I've ever seen anyone put in those basket-thingies at Mass. It doesn't ship till September, but is availbale for pre-order here. Oddly, the game's guitar does bare a striking resemblence to the Guitar Hero & Rack Band versions despite not being affiliated. I smell a lawsuit. They should've made the guitar in the shape of angel wings. Anyone else got some ideas?

(Word up to the peeps at NME for bringing it to my attention. Also, don't worry about me. I'm already doomed.)

Saw tis on Boing Boing or Listening Post.  Leave it to the modern christian movement to want to be like everyone else while segregating themselves in the process.  That's progress!

A guitar in the shape of the cross would be a no-brainer in my sin-field book.

Mention 'genuflect' and the name Tom Lehrer immediately comes to mind. Surely there's room in the crowded pew for him?

And why no Stryper??!!?? Have these people no sense of history?? As readers of the Good Book you'd think that recognising the past is what they live by. Hmmm, but maybe recognising the bands from whence you came recognises the concept of evolution.....just thinking aloud here. (Disclosure: For me, Son Of A Preacher Man is more than a song title.)

And I stand by my theory that Blues music is some of the most spiritual music ever made.  It's got it all, sin, pleas for redemption, regret, seeing the errors of your ways.  Perfect christian morality plays.  And I speak this as a Christian.

From Wikipedia:

Stryper is a Grammy Award nominated Christian metal band from Orange County, California, USA. Formed in 1983, they are pioneers in the mainstream popularization of Christian metal music. Stryper enjoyed great success during the late 1980s, with one Platinum and two Gold records, before breaking up in 1992 at a time when most metal groups of the 1980s were losing popularity. However, the band reunited in 2003 and are attempting a comeback in the Christian music world.

Further:

The Sweet brothers became Christians in 1975, but began to walk away from the Christian faith. Playing in a band called Roxx Regime, which received critical acclaim from the southern California rock community, the Sweet brothers rededicated their lives to Christ after their friend Kenny Metcalf, who later became the original keyboardist for Stryper and is currently keyboardist of Justa Band, witnessed to them about Christ.

"During rehearsals a friend of the Regime kept stopping by to witness about the glory of dedicating their music to God. A year later the rockers dropped to their knees for a prayer session that changed their lives." - People magazine 1986

i could have put together a waaaaay better song list. no chariot?! no project 86?! no living sacrifice?! thousand foot crutch is a start, but get stuff off their third album phenomenon. i guess they were trying to please the parents that host the bible studies. because how the hell do you rock out to jennifer knapp or jeremy camp.
