I wasn't gonna write anything up about Amos Lee's new Blue Note records release. I've never got into the man in the cheesy popcorn-vending hat's music. But I did have the decency to skim the info about his new album, Last Days at the Lodge, out June 24th, 2008, and was surprised by what I read.

Lee who has impressively toured/opened for Van Morrison and Bob Dylan is using some huge names as back-up on his third album. Apart from Lee, on guitars there's Doyle Bramhall, Jr best known for his work as Eric Clapton's side axeman, on keys is Spooner Oldham who has appeared on Neil Young albums and worked with Aretha Franklin. And lastly, the Who's replacement bassist Pino Palladino also plays on the album. I've never heard of the drummer, James Gadson but he's worked with Bill Withers in the past and that makes him dope already.

A tour will announced in the near future. No word yet on if Lee will take the veteran rockers on the road with him.

i saw amos lee open some dates on the bob dylan / merle haggard tour (2005) and was SURPRISED at how much i liked him. the band he had was tight. excellent players, and it spoke volumes to me that he opened the dylan tour...
i haven't kept up with him in the past 3 years... but the fact my overcrowded head remembers him speaks volumes too.

i will keep a look out for this record.
if i don't like it - i'm gonna make you join facebook so i can throw a cow at you or something...

Hey Charley, That "cheesy popcorn vending hat" that Amos is fond of is called a pork pie hat and has been worn for decades by Jazz,Blues & Ska musicians ........btw James Gadson just happens to be one the most recorded studio drummers of all time.
